Frequently Asked Questions: -

What is ISU?

ISU is an independent organization enabling users of mental health services in Norfolk to influence and improve future services by getting involved in a variety of ways, supported by other service users.

ISU is funded by Norfolk Adult Social Services and Norfolk Primary Care Trust.   Whilst funded by health and social services, ISU sits in the voluntary sector to ensure ISU is an independent voice for service user views.

What ISU is not?

ISU is not an advocacy service offering support with individual complaints. It does not offer any form of counseling service. ISU is not a drop-in mental health support service.

Please see Links and Signposts on our website for details of local services that you may wish to access. If you cannot find what you need, do contact ISU and we will do our best to direct you to the most appropriate service.

Who is ISU for?

Anyone who is or has been affected by mental health issues. Do you want to be involved in shaping future mental health care in Norfolk? If so, please contact us for more information about our work.

Who does the work?

ISU has a small team of paid staff but decisions regarding ISU's work are made by a team of actively involved service users. This team (the ISUT) has a changing membership depending on individual members' health and other commitments.

How does ISU work?

ISU sets its annual work plan following its annual Away Days, open to all members of ISU. This work plan breaks down the overall objectives of ISU for the year into projects that can be undertaken by working groups, comprising members of the ISUT, supported by staff.
